LET MY MOTHER SING BY FOLORUNSHO MOSHOOD

by Folorunsho Moshood

Having clawed my way

Through a thorny garden
Of few fruits and plucked the sweetest
From a dry tree that detests a stormy weather;

Who will hinder my mother from singing?
Who? Who? Who?

Having waddled my way
Through a thick forest
Of wild animals and squeezed a gallon of milk
From the flat breasts of a famished lioness;

Who will hinder my mother from singing?
Who? Who? Who?

Having crawled my way
Through a big bush
Of stinging bees and drew a gallon of honey
From a dreadful beehive;

Who will hinder my mother from singing?
Who? Who? Who?

Let my mother eat the fruit
Let my mother drink the milk
Let my mother lick the honey!

Let her sing some ancestral songs
That my grandmother sang for her
Let her sing for me the same songs.
