ANALYSIS OF FM’s LET MY MOTHER SING BY THE VOYAGE SCHOOL BY FOLORUNSHO MOSHOOD
Analysis by Folorunsho Moshood
The poem celebrates the hard work of mothers and the reward therefrom. It is the joy that mothers share from supporting their successful children.

The poet persona went through a tough time trying to be successful: “…claws his way through a thorny garden” and eventually smiles when he is able to “…pluck the sweetest of the few fruits…”
In stanza 3, the struggle continues, as he “waddles his way through a thick forest…” Again, he succeeds as he is able to “squeeze a gallon of milk…”
In stanza 5, he follows the pattern in stanzas 1 and 3. This shows that success does not come easily, and every hard work put in will be rewarded.
Stanzas 2, 4 and 6 act as refrain to the previous stanzas and reinforce the fact that his success is largely due to his mother’s efforts and she deserves to share in his joy.
Because of her support, he wants his mother to eat the fruit of her labour. He reflects this in the last stanza.
